We’re a few weeks into the training, and I’m noticing that I’m starting to enjoy running more and more as I settle into the routine. The autumn weather isn’t always great, but it doesn’t stop me from heading out. Running outdoors energizes me—whether it’s enjoying the scenery and the setting sun or reflecting back on a rainy training session with satisfaction.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been focusing on building a solid base with simple runs of 40-60 minutes at a relaxed pace. I can feel my overall fitness improving, and everything is starting to feel easier.
Last weekend, some friends and I signed up for the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen Marathon. It’s a race from Terneuzen to Hulst that partly runs on unpaved terrain, making it a great training opportunity. My goal is to finish in around 3 hours and 30 minutes.
A week ago, my first son was born, which temporarily put my training on hold. Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with an easygoing baby, and I’m slowly getting back into the rhythm. I’ve already completed a few runs, but the coming months will be about finding a balance between training and family time. I’m looking forward to this challenge and am confident that I’ll settle into a rhythm that prepares me well for the upcoming trail runs.
We’re not great at capturing moments with photos, so here’s an older picture to give you an idea. It may not be from a recent run, but it still captures the spirit and joy of running that I’m experiencing now.
